Actual Project

Cali, Department Valle - Colombia

Field or sector:

Income generating initatives

Project Title:

Training Courses for Women

Background and reason for the project:

In Colombia, the women continue to live under difficult situations. They experience inequality, inadequate work opportunities, low salaries and difficulty in accessing professional and/or vocational education.  According to data presented by the Department of Statistics in Colombia (DANE), men earn 21% more than women having the same level of education. In addition, the 60 per cent of women who have informal jobs have no provision for layoffs nor any financial support for pension and health.
Faced with this reality, our Social Foundation Mary of the Apostles will offer special training for women to promote and support their skills and help them develop their income-generating initiatives, allowing them to obtain better income for their families.  The people receiving these benefits from the project live in the area of Cali, a vulnerable neighbourhood characterized by armed conflict.

Providing education ensures the future of young women, teaches skills for work and also provides human and spiritual formation.  As a result, the women will be better humans and better caregivers for their children.
Project Goals:

The project aims to promote, through training courses: women who live in the neighborhoods northwest of Commune 18, a poor area of the city of Cali, the capital of the Department of Valle. These include young single women, young pregnant women, breast-feeding mothers, housewives and single mothers.

A major goal is to train young pregnant women, nursing mothers and other women so that they may gain better living conditions as well as prepare to enter the job market with skills for homemaking or technical work.
