Salvatorian School Inc. is a small preschool located in a populated urban barangay in the city of Cebu.
120 children aged 3-6 currently attend the preschool. The aim is to provide the children, most of whom come from underprivileged families, with a holistic education and to develop them according to their abilities and age. With the help of the local authorities, the Salvatorian Sisters provide assistance to socially disadvantaged families in particular by reducing the pre-school fees. Around 35-40% of families benefit from this support.
Many families and parents struggle to send their children to school. Time and again, children are absent for days on end because the family does not have the money for a bus or tuk-tuk.
The means of transport to and from school are mostly tricycles, bicycles, motorbikes, pedal cars – but most children walk.
Teachers who live in nearby towns/barangays commute to school using jeepneys and bicycles, struggling with the daily traffic, the stress of commuting and the additional cost of transport.
The purchase of two mounted bikes in the school's play area aims to provide the young children with additional exercise and activities and to promote the development of motor skills and health through movement.

Families who cannot afford the cost of buses and tuk-tuks are provided with family bicycles, which they can use to get their children to school more easily and, above all, regularly and punctually. This ensures continuous school attendance. (The bicycle is made available to the beneficiary family free of charge for as long as the child attends pre-school. Regular and proper maintenance and servicing is guaranteed by the family.)
The teachers are provided with motorbikes. This makes it easier for them to travel to school and also to make home visits to families who are currently difficult to reach.
The following equipment is to be purchased:
- 3 x training bikes (permanently mounted on the school playground ) EUR 590
- 4 x family bikes – provided for parents EUR 650
- 2 x motorbikes – provided for teachers EUR 2.900
Total amount of EUR 4.140
We are grateful for each support!
