The Lupaso Vocational Training Centre (VTC) offers training measures for both girls and boys as well as two-year training courses in the following areas. Tailoring and textiles, bricklaying, woodworking and carpentry as well as electrical installation and computer courses.
These courses offer the young people new areas of learning and career prospects, which also promote their independence. The VTC is located 45 kilometres from the town of Masasi, in a rural area surrounded by five other villages. The population lives from agriculture, small fields and plots of land that are used for self-sufficiency.
There are few job opportunities and many families live on the poverty line with only 3-5 dollars a day. Educational and vocational training programmes are all the more important here.
Demand is high, but not all young people can be accepted - due to a shortage of workshop rooms and tools and for financial reasons. The VTC does not receive any subsidies and the parents are often unable to afford the cost of their own education or accommodation and meals.

The aim is to support families in need and thus provide young people with suitable training that helps them to develop themselves and their abilities.
In addition, small-scale teacher training courses and the purchase of necessary materials are also intended to improve the quality of the training programmes. |
