Buyuni is a village in the west of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. The sisters have been active there for many years and run a kindergarten with about 65 children as well as a school. The school was recently rebuilt and partly newly constructed. The school complex is relatively large, and many parents in the area send their children to this facility.
The sisters are particularly appreciated for the good quality of their teaching. Many pupils come from the middle class and often accept a longer way to school so that they can enjoy the sisters’ teaching. At present, the number of pupils is expected to increase steadily in the coming years.
Some school grounds are not yet completely finished or can be expanded. The classrooms still need furnishings, and good teaching materials are necessary. |
The kitchen still needs to be completed so that it can continue to cope with the increasing number of pupils. It is imperative that at least one meal can be offered to the children so they are able to concentrate and have fun during the lessons.
For the pupils who will sleep on the compound in the future, because the daily way to school is too far, it is even necessary to cook several times. The dormitories also need to be equipped with furniture.
Most of the students in Buyuni come from the middle class, which has the positive effect that the school can cover almost all running expenses. The sisters support the few parents who cannot afford the school fees.
The sisters, but especially the students, are happy about any support they receive for furnishings or school and teaching materials. In this way, the school becomes a place of change and shaping the future.
